Student Co-op Homes Acquires Birmingham Property!
Student Co-op Homes is proud to announce that it has acquired the home of Birmingham Student Housing Co-operative (BSHC).
The property is a large nine-bedroom house, featuring a spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms and a sizable garden with a firepit, greenhouse, shed and trampoline! It is located just a 30-minute walk from the University of Birmingham and is served by regular buses into Birmingham city centre.
BSHC was set up in 2014 and is one of the UK’s longest-running student housing co-ops! Since opening its doors, it has provided an alternative to the grotty and overpriced accommodation of the private sector.
Working together with SCH, BSHC hopes to access funds to retrofit the house with sustainability improvements potentially including improvements to insulation and solar panels!
This acquisition has only been possible due to the strong partnership between SCH and Midcounties Co-op, which has seen Midcounties invest £142,500 in our share capital in order to finance the purchase. The property was originally bought by The Phone Co-op in 2014 to give BSHC access to a house. The Phone Co-op merged with Midcounties in 2018.
